Dr Alfred Salter, along with his wife Ada were passionate social reformers, who dedicated their lives to the people of Rotherhithe and Bermondsey. Dr Salter established a medical practice where the poor could receive affordable, or even free, care. Both were active in politics with Dr Salter serving as MP for the area from 1922 to his death in 1945. Also, in 1922, Ada was elected Mayor of Bermondsey, making her the first woman mayor in London.
Rooted in the values of its namesake, Alfred Salter Primary School stands at the centre of the community, with compassion and inclusivity at its heart. The school seeks to provide an abundance of opportunities and life experiences for each and every child: unearthing passion, nurturing talent and growing fulfilled individuals.
